Lent

We take the 40 days before Easter to pause,

to recall

to repent

to return.

recalling:

We read together, a chapter a day, from Amon’s Adventure: A Family Story for Easter.

repenting:

Our repentance box.  A place to write our transgressions that can be slipped through a crack in the box and nobody else will ever see.  We will burn them Easter morning, for He says in Isaiah 43:25″, …I will remember your sins no more.”

returning:

Each day, we write our 7 ordinary or spectacular gifts from God, to help us focus on all He has given us.

7 gifts booklet comes from Ann Voskamp at aholyexperience.com, who writes

“This fallen world never stops dis-membering and we all break apart a bit more everyday…

The kids squabble, we sit in ER rooms, we fail old friends, the dog dies, dinner burns.

And even in the ache, God whispers: Give thanks anyways — do this in re-membrance of Me.

Why in the world give thanks? Why in the name of heaven?

Because when we remember how He blesses, loves us, when we recollect His goodnesses to us — our broken places re-collect. We re-member. We heal.

In the remembering to give thanks, our broken places are re-membered — made whole.

And in giving thanks to Him in the assembly, it’s our very souls that re-assemble, giving thanks to Him who let Himself be broken to make us whole.”
